Hootsuite is the scheduler most people have heard of, and for a team of ten it is still a serious platform: one inbox for every channel, brand monitoring, approval workflows, and an AI writer on the base plan. It has been doing this longer than almost anyone.

The Hootsuite alternative search usually starts at the invoice. Standard is $99 per user per month on an annual plan, the free plan is long gone, and most small businesses are paying for a monitoring suite they open once. (The dashboard has a tab for everything, including several things you will never need.)

The other reason is the same one that sends people away from every scheduler. Hootsuite publishes posts. It does not make them.

You run social for a large team and need brand monitoring, message routing and multi-step approvals with a paper trail.

Choose Magic Marketer if

You are a small business paying enterprise prices to schedule posts you still have to make, and you want the posts made first.

What Hootsuite does well

Breadth. Hootsuite connects to every major network including WhatsApp, puts comments and messages from all of them in one inbox, and monitors mentions and keywords across social. The Advanced tier adds message routing and multi-step approvals for teams that need a paper trail. If you run social for a large organisation and need enterprise controls, it is one of two or three tools built for the job.

Where it stops

Per-user pricing at $99 a seat means a three-person team pays $297 a month before add-ons, and the useful team features sit on Professional at $199. There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial. The AI writer, OwlyWriter, drafts captions from a prompt - it does not know your business, your clients or what you said last week. And the whole platform assumes the content exists: it is a very large room with an empty queue in the middle of it.

How Magic Marketer is different

Magic Marketer starts with the part Hootsuite leaves to you. One source - a call recording, a voice note, a transcript, a link - becomes a batch of finished posts in eight formats, in your voice, checked against your brand guardrails and compliance presets. Then it schedules and publishes them to LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, Threads, Pinterest, YouTube and Google Business, at the best time for each. On Autopilot a fresh batch arrives every week.

It is one Autopilot plan: team members and brands included, no extra charge for an admin, no generation limits. It also has an inbox for comments and DMs, though it does not do social listening or competitor monitoring.

If you need listening, message routing and enterprise approvals, Hootsuite or Sprout Social is the right buy and this is not. If you are a small business paying $99 a month to schedule posts you still have to make, this is the one.

Other Hootsuite alternatives worth considering

Magic Marketer is not the right fit for everyone. These are the tools we would point you to instead, and why.

  • Buffer

The cheapest way down from Hootsuite if you have content: free for 3 channels, $5 per channel a month after, no per-seat charge.

  • Metricool

Analytics and competitor tracking for up to 10 brands on a $25/mo plan. The closest like-for-like at a fraction of the price.

  • Sprout Social

The step sideways, not down: better reporting and listening than Hootsuite, at a similar per-seat price.

  • Vista Social

Inbox, listening add-on and 15 profiles from $79/mo for two users - Hootsuite features at a mid-market price.

  • Publer

Per-account pricing from $5/mo. Cheap for a few channels, no inbox to speak of.

Hootsuite alternative FAQs

Is there a free Hootsuite alternative?

Buffer (3 channels, 10 queued posts each) and Metricool (1 brand, 20 posts a month) both have usable free plans. Hootsuite retired its own free plan; it offers a 14-day trial. Magic Marketer has a 14-day trial with unlimited creations rather than a permanent free tier.

What is the cheapest Hootsuite alternative for a small business?

Buffer at $5/mo or Publer at $5 per account if you already have posts. If the posts are the problem, Magic Marketer - it makes them from a recording or a link and then publishes, priced per plan rather than per user.

Does Magic Marketer have a social inbox like Hootsuite?

Yes - comments and DMs from your connected channels in one place, with batched notifications. It does not have social listening or brand monitoring across the wider web; if you need those, Hootsuite or Sprout Social still do them best.

Why is Hootsuite so expensive?

It is priced per user for teams that need monitoring, routing and approvals, and the price reflects that. A solo operator or a three-person business is paying for enterprise breadth. Most of the alternatives on this page price per channel, per brand or per plan instead.
