Later alternatives in 2026: six tools, prices checked

If you want the same grid for less, Planoly. If you want a free plan back, Buffer or Metricool. If you have a library to recycle, Publer. If you need an inbox and reviews, Vista Social. If your posts come from what you know rather than what you shoot, Magic Marketer®. If the grid is the point and you shoot your own photos, stay on Later.

How we compared them

We read each vendor's own pricing page on 12 October 2026 and copied the list prices as published. Where a page did not show a price we could read, we wrote "Check current pricing" rather than guess. Each tool gets one best-for label, so no two are pitched at the same reader. The switching section comes from the vendor's own help centre. Magic Marketer® is our product. The choose-them-if lines are written so you can leave this page for someone else.

Why people leave Later

Later built its name on the Instagram grid. Drag in your photos, preview the feed, schedule, add a Link in Bio. For visual brands with a photographer on hand, it is still a lovely tool.

Two things send people looking. The first is price: there is no free plan, and Starter caps you at thirty posts per profile a month. The second is the grid itself. It is only useful if you have something to drop into it. (For the rest of us, the grid preview is mostly a preview of guilt.)

PlanPriceWhat you get
Starter$18.75/mo billed yearly1 social set (8 profiles), 1 user, 30 posts per profile a month, 5 AI credits
Growth$37.50/mo billed yearly2 social sets (16 profiles), 2 users, 180 posts per profile, 50 AI credits
Scale$82.50/mo billed yearly6 social sets (48 profiles), 4 users, unlimited posts, 100 AI credits

USD list prices from later.com/pricing, checked 12 October 2026. No free plan, 14-day trial. The page showed yearly billing only. For the month-to-month price, check current pricing.

Stay on Later if

You shoot your own photos and video, Instagram or TikTok is the main channel, and the grid preview and Link in Bio are how you plan.

Magic Marketer® is for the business whose posts are ideas, not photos. One source - a recording, a transcript, a link - becomes eight post formats in your voice, including carousels, quote cards, stories and short-form video. Then it publishes them. Compared with Later, you lose the grid preview. You gain a calendar that arrives full.

PlanPriceWhat you get

How to choose a Later alternative

Start with what fills your grid today. It is usually one of six answers.

  1. 01

Your own photos, and the grid is the point

Stay on Later, or try Planoly for less.

  2. 02

Photos, but you never used the grid

Buffer. Cheaper, with a free plan.

  3. 03

You want to see what is working

Metricool. Free for one brand, with competitor tracking.

  4. 04

A back catalogue you want to reuse

Publer. Post recycling and a free plan.

  5. 05

Several brands and a busy inbox

Vista Social. Inbox and reviews in one place.

  6. 06

Nothing, because you are not a photographer

Magic Marketer®. It makes the posts from what you know, then publishes. That is the only reason to pick us over Later.

Switching from Later: your calendar, media and profiles

Most roundups skip this bit. It decides whether you switch this month or next year.

The short version: your media and numbers can leave, your calendar has no export we could find, and cancelling does not clear it.

What moves

  • Your media. Download it from the Media Library. Desktop saves medium resolution. The iOS app saves full resolution, several at once.
  • Your analytics. On paid plans, each Analytics section exports as a CSV file.
  • Your captions, by hand. Copy the ones you want to keep from the calendar.

What does not

  • The scheduled calendar as a file. We found no export for scheduled posts in Later's help centre.
  • Connected profiles. Connections do not transfer. You reconnect each profile in the new tool.
  • Paid analytics, once your plan ends. Later says access drops to the free level straight away.
  • Full editing, after your plan ends. Later says you can still change captions and times, but not a post's media items, location tags or first comments.

In this order

  1. Export your analytics CSVs and download your media, using the iOS app for full resolution.
  2. Connect your profiles in the new tool and rebuild the calendar there. Magic Marketer® does not import a Later calendar - it makes new posts from a source.
  3. Delete or unschedule the posts in Later, so nothing goes out twice. Cancelling alone does not clear the calendar, and your plan runs to the end of the billing cycle.
  4. Cancel in Settings, then Subscription, on app.later.com. If you signed up in the iOS app, cancel through your Apple subscription instead.

From Later's help centre (Download Your Media from Later, Export Later's Instagram Analytics as a CSV, and Cancel Your Later Plan), checked 12 October 2026.

Later alternative FAQs

Does Later still have a free plan?

No. Later's pricing page shows a 14-day trial and no free plan. Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly. Buffer, Metricool and Publer still have free plans.

Is Magic Marketer® good for Instagram?

Yes. It makes carousels, stories, quote cards, feed graphics and short-form video sized for Instagram, and publishes them. It does not do grid-preview planning. It plans by week and channel instead.

Which Later alternative suits a service business?

If your posts come from what you say to clients rather than what you photograph, Magic Marketer®. It turns recordings, transcripts and links into posts. If you have photos already and want a cheaper planner, Planoly or Buffer.

Can I export my scheduled posts from Later?

We found no export for scheduled posts in Later's help centre. You can download your media, and on paid plans export analytics as CSV files. Copy any scheduled captions you want to keep before you leave.

Can Magic Marketer® post to TikTok and LinkedIn as well as Instagram?

Yes. LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, Threads, Pinterest, YouTube and Google Business, from one calendar.
