The 10 Best Social Media Scheduling Tools in 2026 (Compared Honestly)

Every scheduler on this list will publish a post at 9am on Tuesday. The differences that matter are what they cost once you add a second brand, whether they help you make the post at all, and how much of the tool you will actually use. Ten compared, with the trade-offs spelled out, and the Tuesday 9am post kept as the control group.

Quick answer

If you already have posts and just need a reliable queue: Buffer (free for three channels, $5 a month after). If you want scheduling plus real analytics for several brands on a budget: Metricool. If Instagram is your main channel and you shoot your own photos: Later. If you run an agency and the bottleneck is client sign-off: Planable or HeyOrca. If you are a team of ten or more with a listening budget: Hootsuite or Sprout Social.

And if the honest problem is that the queue is empty because nobody made the posts - which, in our experience, is the actual problem for most small businesses - you want a scheduler that makes the posts first.

That is what Magic Marketer is. It is at the top of the list for that reason, and with the caveat that it is not the cheapest queue. (We would rather you knew that now than at the invoice.)

How do the ten compare?

Prices are USD list prices on each vendor's site as of September 2026; Magic Marketer is in AUD.

How did we choose?

We looked at each tool on five things: which channels it publishes to, whether it helps you produce the post or only queue it, how the price scales when you add a brand, a user or a client, whether approvals exist for teams, and how much of the product a small business will actually use. We have used most of these tools ourselves or built comparisons of them; where we have not, we have relied on the vendor's own pricing page and recent independent reviews. Pricing pages were read in full, footnotes included, which is more than we can say for our own terms and conditions.

One bias to declare: we make Magic Marketer. We have tried to describe it with the same "where it stops" honesty as everyone else on the list, and there are several situations below where we tell you to buy something else. (We have made peace with this. Mostly.)

The tools

1. Magic Marketer - best if you need the posts made, not just scheduled

Price: A$149/mo Autopilot (A$99/mo for the first 100 customers, A$990/yr). 14-day free trial with unlimited creations, no card; publishing needs a paid plan.

Channels: LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, Threads, Pinterest, YouTube, Google Business

What it does well

  • Starts from a source you already have - a call recording, a voice note, a transcript, a link, a photo - and produces finished posts in eight formats in your voice
  • Best-time scheduling from your own account history per platform; publish now, pick a time, or spread a reviewed set across the week
  • Brand guardrails and compliance presets (TGA, APRA, AHPRA, NDIS and more) checked on every draft before you see it
  • Autopilot delivers a fresh weekly batch so the calendar stays full without a Sunday content day

Where it stops

  • Not the cheapest queue: if you already have a content team, a plain scheduler is a fraction of the price
  • No CSV bulk upload of posts made elsewhere, and no competitor tracking or social listening
  • Priced in AUD, which US buyers will want to convert

Buy it if the calendar is empty because nobody made the posts. Skip it if you have content and only need a queue.

2. Buffer - best beginner scheduler, and the best free plan

Price: Free (3 channels, 10 posts each). Essentials $5/mo, Team $10/mo.

Channels: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Threads, Pinterest, YouTube, Bluesky, Mastodon, Google Business

What it does well

  • Cleanest interface in the category; most people learn it in ten minutes
  • Genuinely useful free plan, and paid plans priced per plan rather than per seat
  • Team plan adds approvals and permissions for $10

Where it stops

  • Does not make anything - the AI Assistant rewrites text you paste in
  • Analytics are basic next to Metricool or Sprout
  • Channel limits on the free plan bite quickly

The right first scheduler for a solo operator with content in hand.

3. Metricool - best value for analytics and multiple brands

Price: Free (1 brand, 20 posts/mo). Starter $25/mo for up to 10 brands, Advanced $67/mo for up to 50.

Channels: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, Google Business, Twitch

What it does well

  • Ten brands on a $25 plan is unmatched for a small agency
  • Analytics cover organic, paid, competitors and hashtags
  • Free plan is usable, not a teaser

Where it stops

  • Content creation is a generic AI caption assistant on credits
  • The dashboard can feel like a lot for someone who just wants to post
  • No client-facing approval links

The best like-for-like Buffer upgrade, and the best pick for anyone who wants to measure.

4. Later - best for Instagram-first visual brands

Price: Starter $25/mo (1 social set, 30 posts per profile), Growth $50/mo, Scale $110/mo. No free plan; 14-day trial.

Channels: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, Threads, Snapchat

What it does well

  • Visual feed planner and grid preview are still the best around
  • Link in Bio, media library and hashtag suggestions are polished
  • Best-time recommendations are strong on Instagram and TikTok

Where it stops

  • Retired its free plan; entry is $25 for one brand
  • Post limits per profile on cheaper tiers
  • Caption AI is credit-limited and does not produce visuals

Worth it if you shoot your own content and care how the grid looks. Not for service businesses whose content is ideas.

5. Publer - cheapest per account

Price: Free (3 accounts, 10 scheduled posts each). Professional $5 per account/mo, Business $10 per account/mo.

Channels: Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, TikTok, Google Business, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, WordPress, Telegram

What it does well

  • Per-account pricing makes one or two channels very cheap
  • Bulk scheduling, first-comment scheduling and recurring posts
  • Business tier adds analytics, best times and competitor analysis for $10

Where it stops

  • Per-account pricing gets expensive past six or seven channels
  • Interface is busier than Buffer
  • No content production beyond AI prompts

The budget pick for one or two channels with a lot of posts.

6. SocialBee - best for evergreen content recycling

Price: Bootstrap $29/mo (5 profiles), Accelerate $49/mo (10 profiles), Pro $99/mo (25 profiles, 3 users). No free plan.

Channels: Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google Business, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Bluesky

What it does well

  • Category-based queues re-post evergreen content on a schedule so the calendar never empties
  • Canva integration and AI text assistance on every plan
  • Reasonable per-profile scaling

Where it stops

  • Recycling only works if you have a library of good posts to recycle
  • Single user on the two cheaper plans
  • Analytics history is short on Bootstrap

Ideal if you have a back-catalogue and want it to keep working. Less useful when you are starting from nothing.

7. Planable - best approvals for small teams

Price: Free (50 posts total, 1 workspace). Basic $39 per workspace/mo, Pro $59 per workspace/mo. Analytics and engagement are add-ons.

Channels: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Google Business, Threads

What it does well

  • The cleanest review-and-approve interface on the list; comments sit on the post itself
  • Unlimited users on every plan
  • Multiple approval workflow types

Where it stops

  • Per-workspace pricing and monthly post caps
  • Analytics and engagement cost extra
  • No content creation

If sign-off is your bottleneck and you have fewer than a handful of brands, this is the tidiest way to fix it.

8. HeyOrca - best agency approvals, at an agency price

Price: Free (15 posts/mo). Basic $59 per calendar/mo, Pro $149 per calendar/mo. Reports, inbox and listening are add-ons on Basic.

Channels: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, Google Business, Threads

What it does well

  • Client approval links and shared calendars are best in class
  • Unlimited users on paid plans
  • Canva integration and Link in Bio included

Where it stops

  • Per-calendar pricing: eight clients on Pro is $1,192 a month
  • AI, best-time and inbox are gated to the $149 tier
  • Does not make the posts

Right for an agency whose cost is chasing approvals. Wrong for one whose cost is producing content.

9. Hootsuite - best for large teams that need an inbox and monitoring

Price: Standard $99 per user/mo (10 accounts), Professional $199, Advanced $399, billed annually. No free plan; 14-day trial.

Channels: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, WhatsApp

What it does well

  • Unified inbox, brand monitoring and AI post generation on the base plan
  • Deep integrations and enterprise controls
  • Approval workflows and message routing on Advanced

Where it stops

  • Per-user pricing starts at $99 - most small businesses pay for breadth they never open
  • Independent buyers report median annual spend well above list
  • Heavier to learn than anything else here

A serious platform for a serious team. Overkill below ten people.

10. Sprout Social - best enterprise listening and reporting

Price: Essentials $99 per seat/mo ($79 annual), Standard $199, Professional $299, Advanced $399. 30-day trial.

Channels: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, Reddit, WhatsApp

What it does well

  • Best-in-class reporting and social listening
  • AI Assist and competitor insights on Professional
  • Excellent inbox and case management for support teams

Where it stops

  • Per-seat pricing from $99 with the useful tier at $299
  • Five-profile cap on the two cheapest plans
  • Far more platform than a small business needs

If you have a social team and a listening budget, this is the benchmark. Otherwise it is a very expensive scheduler.

What should any social media scheduling tool have?

  • Native publishing to every channel you actually use - including Google Business and Threads, which cheaper tools still skip
  • Best-time posting worked out from your account, not a generic chart
  • A review step before anything goes out, and approvals if more than one person touches the calendar
  • Per-channel adaptation: captions reworded and sizes fixed for each platform, not one post copy-pasted everywhere
  • Pricing that does not double the moment you add a second brand, user or client - check the per-seat, per-workspace and per-calendar models before you commit
  • Some way of producing the post, or an honest acceptance that you will be making all of them yourself

Which pricing traps should you check before you buy?

List prices on this page are the number on the vendor's pricing page. What you pay is usually different, for four reasons, none of which are printed in a font you can read.

  • Per-seat pricing (Hootsuite, Sprout Social): every extra person who logs in is another $99 - $399. A three-person team on Hootsuite Standard is $297 a month before add-ons.
  • Per-workspace or per-calendar pricing (Planable, HeyOrca): every brand or client is a separate subscription. Fine at two, painful at eight.
  • Per-account pricing (Publer): cheap for two channels, more than Metricool by the time you connect seven.
  • Post caps and credits (Later, Planable, Metricool free, every AI assistant): the plan is cheap until you hit the ceiling mid-month. Check the cap against how often you actually post.

Magic Marketer is priced per plan, not per seat, brand or credit, which is simpler - and also why it looks expensive next to a $5 queue. The like-for-like comparison is against the queue plus whatever you currently spend making the posts. The $5 queue still needs something to put in it at 9am on Tuesday.

How do you choose?

Start with the constraint, not the feature list. If it is money and you have content, Buffer or Publer. If it is measurement, Metricool. If it is Instagram aesthetics, Later. If it is sign-off, Planable or HeyOrca. If it is a team and a budget, Hootsuite or Sprout.

If the constraint is that the posts never get made - you know what to say, you just never sit down and turn it into carousels and captions - then every tool above except the first one will leave you exactly where you are, with a nicer calendar. Tuesday 9am comes around either way. Buy the production line, and let the scheduler come with it.

Questions

Buffer, for most people: three channels and ten queued posts each, with a clean interface. Metricool's free plan is better if you want analytics for one brand. Publer's free tier covers three accounts but excludes X. Magic Marketer offers a 14-day trial with unlimited creations instead of a permanent free plan.
