Can you post on Instagram from a computer?

Yes. The Instagram website posts photos and videos from a PC or a Mac. It is the same on both, because it all happens in the browser.

So the photos on your laptop no longer need a detour through your phone (the one you were trying to put down).

How to post on Instagram from desktop, step by step

Seven steps. Sign in at instagram.com first.

  1. 01

    Click Create

In the menu on the left.

  2. 02

Click Post, then Select from computer

Or drag the file into the window. Photos can be JPG, PNG or HEIC.

  3. 03

Choose the size, then click Next

This is where the crop happens. Check it before you move on.

  4. 04

Edit if you want, then click Next

Filters and Adjustments sit along the top.

  5. 05

    Write the caption

Add a location here too if you like.

  6. 06

    Add alt text and settings

Accessibility is for alt text. Advanced settings is where you turn comments off.

  7. 07

    Click Share

Top right. It publishes straight away.

Is there a faster way to post on Instagram from a computer?

The steps above are the slow way. The website gets one finished post onto Instagram, live the moment you click Share. You still have to make it first.

That is where the evenings go. Not the upload. Not the crop. Just the making.

Magic Marketer® starts from something you already said, and publishes the posts to Instagram for you. It all happens on your computer. The phone stays in the drawer, where it belongs.

  1. 01

    Use a professional account

Business or creator. Switching is free, inside Instagram's settings.

  2. 02

    Connect Instagram

Open Integrations and choose Instagram. You sign in on Instagram's own screen, so we never see your password.

  3. 03

    Give it a source

A call, a voice note, a link or a PDF. That becomes carousels, stories, reels and static posts in your voice.

  4. 04

    Review the batch

Each format is already sized for Instagram. Tweak a line, swap a photo, delete what you do not like.

  5. 05

    Approve and pick the timing

Post now, pick a date and time, or schedule for best performance from your own account history.

Nothing posts until you approve it. A personal account can still download the drafts and post them by hand.

A personal stylist we work with opened Magic Marketer® to find 28 posts ready to go. Her words: "I have so much choice here, it's fantastic." Adding her own photo to each took seconds. 28 posts sorted in 28 seconds.

If you post a few times a month and the photos are already on your laptop, instagram.com is free and fine. Honestly.

Free for 7 days. Cancel anytime before day 7 and you won't be charged. Publishing is included in the trial.

Can you schedule Instagram posts from a computer?

Not from instagram.com. Share publishes the moment you click it.

Meta Business Suite, Meta's free tool for Facebook and Instagram, can schedule Instagram posts from a computer. Meta moves its menus around often, so follow its own help pages for the current clicks.

Or use a tool that connects to your Instagram account and publishes for you. That route needs a professional account (business or creator).

What sizes work when you post from a computer?

Instagram's own rules for the website, then the sizes we build each format to.

Why can't I post on Instagram from my computer?

The usual suspects, in the order worth checking.

  • You are not signed in. Sign in at instagram.com first. The steps start from your signed-in home screen.
  • The file type is wrong. Photos need to be JPG, PNG or HEIC. Re-export it and try again.
  • The crop looks off. Go back to the size step before Next and pick a different shape.
  • A connected tool cannot publish. The account is probably personal. Switch it to professional and reconnect.
  • Still stuck? Update the browser, sign out and back in, then try once more before reaching for the phone.
